Bow-Print Ruffle Top

Bow prints go wrong when the bows are treated as decoration. Here they are large, loose and scattered across a pale ivory ground, so the print reads as an all-over pattern rather than a motif stuck on a plain shirt. The soft V with a short front opening and the fluttery ruffled cap sleeves keep it light, and the fluid fabric falls away from the body instead of sitting stiffly. It is the kind of top that does the work of a dress when you do not want a full dress.

Wear it with denim, a wide-leg trouser, or a simple skirt, and let the print carry the outfit. Because the background is pale, a darker bottom makes the pattern read cleanly, while an all-light outfit keeps it soft and summery. Add a small earring rather than a necklace, so the neckline is not competing with the print. It works with a flat by day and a heel and a small bag after dark.

Made from a lightweight woven fabric with a small amount of stretch, a V neckline with a short opening, and ruffled cap sleeves. Available in S through XL. Machine wash cold and tumble dry low.
