50x70cm Softbox Lighting Kit

Hard light makes hard shadows, and hard shadows are what make a photograph taken in a living room look like a photograph taken in a living room. A softbox fixes that by putting a large diffusing panel between the bulb and the subject, so the light arrives from a big area instead of a small one. This kit is the standard two-panel studio pair in a 50 by 70 cm size, which is large enough to soften a face or a product and small enough to stand in a corner.

How to set them up for a better result

Put one light at about 45 degrees to the subject and a little above eye height, and use the second one behind and to the other side, on lower power, to lift the shadow side rather than to light the subject. Bring the panel in close - the closer the diffuser, the softer the edge of the shadow, and the size of the light relative to the subject is the whole mechanism. Continuous lights run all the time, so you can see the result before you shoot, which is why they are easier to learn on than a flash.
